The Ring

Rings are fairly self explanatory in that they are circular shaped, just like a normal finger ring. With a body jewelry ring, there is an opening and a clasp or fastener of some sort to keep the ring in place.

Rings are normally used in eyebrows, ear, nose, and lip. The most common introductory piercing jewelry ring is in the belly button because it is usually one of the safest places to pierce.

Circular Barbells

The circular barbell is a curved piece of jewelry that looks just like a horseshoe. There really isn’t a difference between the circular barbell and other barbells. It’s really more of a personal preference issue.

Circular barbells are most commonly used for nose piercings, ears, or navel. Some styles of erotic body jewelry come in circular barbells too.

Straight Barbells

If you think of a weightlifting bar with a weight on each side, you get the picture. This is one of the most fashionable styles available since the design is subject to the most interpretation. Straight barbells can have all kinds of decorative effects. Typically, one side is fixed and the other is removable to allow fastening and unfastening from the body. Common uses include ear lobe, tongue, and nose piercings.

Curved Barbells

The curved barbell is very similar to the straight barbell except that it is curved. Some curved barbells are almost circular, while others deploy a gentle curve for a fashionable effect.

They are most often used as belly button jewelry, and are typically affixed with jewels, either precious stones or zirconia. Always look for stones that are hand set because they are generally much more durable.
